Recently, the "Member Showcase" column in the October 2026 issue (Issue No. 254) of the Xiuzhou General Chamber of Commerce magazine visited GRAEFF’s Jiaxing manufacturing base and conducted an exclusive interview with Dr. Hao Wu, Global President of GRAEFF. The report chronicles Dr. Hao Wu’s journey from a frontline worker to the Global President of a multinational enterprise, as well as GRAEFF’s development story rooted in Xiuzhou, leading the upgrading of the intelligent sensor industry through AI innovation.

Leaving hometown young to start a venture in Shanghai, Devoted himself to the sensor industry with perseverance.

Dr. Hao Wu was born in 1983 in a rural area of Yueyang, Hunan Province. At the age of 16, he dropped out of high school and travelled alone to Shanghai, where he started as an apprentice at a sensor manufacturer. Without formal education or connections, he forged ahead with relentless grit, immersing himself in research on the production floor. As he puts it, “Mastery comes from diligence and fades with idleness. A mentor may show you the way, yet knowledge is gained through one’s own efforts.”

Within just one year, he gained more experience than many peers who had worked in the industry for three years. In 2002, at only 19 years old, he was honoured as an “Outstanding Employee” by the Yangpu District Federation of Trade Unions in Shanghai. Moving from frontline operator to after-sales support and then sales, he built a thorough understanding of technology, markets and customers. Through repeated hands-on troubleshooting of imported equipment failures, the seed was sown for his future on the global stage.

In 2006, at the age of 23, Dr. Hao Wu founded Shanghai Haoying Measurement & Control Technology Co., Ltd. Benchmarking global industry leaders, the company focused on the R&D of melt pressure sensors and measurement & control instruments. The “Haoying” brand quickly gained a firm foothold in the domestic market. In 2012, the company was acquired by the US-based Roper Group, and he took office as President of Dynisco China, establishing the Dynisco China factory from scratch. In 2014, he consolidated resources to establish HogoGroup, whose business spans sensors, the Internet of Things, cultural media, catering, agriculture, investment and other sectors.

As his business grew, he never forgot to give back to society. Since 2006, he has sponsored nearly 1,000 left-behind children through their schooling from primary school to university. He donated hundreds of thousands of yuan to elderly Red Army veterans in Pingjiang, Hunan, and founded the public welfare brand “Gewu Yishan”. He continues to support disadvantaged groups via platforms such as UNICEF. This entrepreneur from rural Yueyang has put Fan Zhongyan’s ethos, “Be concerned about the affairs of the world before others”, into two decades of consistent charitable action.

Selecting Xiuzhou for a new chapter, Embarking on a new journey empowered by AI.

In August 2020, Dr. Hao Wu was appointed President of GRAEFF (格拉夫) China. After extensive site evaluations, he finally located GRAEFF’s China manufacturing base in Xiuzhou, Jiaxing. Boasting a complete industrial chain and superior business environment within the Yangtze River Delta, Xiuzhou serves as an ideal hub balancing technological innovation and industrial implementation.

GRAEFF’s Jiaxing base is situated in the industrial park at No. 1237 Jiachuang Road, covering an area of approximately 2,000 square metres. A fully integrated team covering R&D, production, sales and foreign trade was built from the ground up.

In the second year after settlement, the team kicked off the development of the world’s first AI intelligent melt pressure sensor. Faced with an initial pass rate of only 20%–30%, he and his team immersed themselves in laboratory work for three months. “If the principle is viable, we must find a way forward no matter how difficult it is.” After multiple rounds of material screening as well as algorithm and hardware adaptation, the pass rate rose to 80% one year later, and the product moved smoothly into mass production.

This product can correct zero drift in real time under extreme temperatures of 350℃, thoroughly addressing the temperature drift pain point of conventional sensors. The enterprise’s output value exceeded 20 million yuan in that same year.

At present, GRAEFF’s Jiaxing base is capable of producing 200,000 sensors of various types annually and holds nearly 200 national patents. Its products are widely used in chemical, chemical fiber, rubber and plastic, automotive, food, pharmaceutical and other industries. Its R&D achievements have won the Silver Award at the 6th China (Shanghai) International Invention and Innovation Exhibition and the Bronze Award in the 34th Shanghai Excellent Invention Competition. GRAEFF has also led and participated in the formulation of multiple national standards including General Technical Requirements for Intelligent Measurement and Control Equipment and Pressure Sensors.

2023: Appointed President of GRAEFF Asia-Pacific while retaining the role of President of GRAEFF China. Established the Asia-Pacific Headquarters in Shanghai, covering the Asia-Pacific market with China as the hub.

Technical Achievements & Industry Contributions

As a legendary leading figure in the sensor industry, Dr. Hao Wu is a craftsman entrepreneur and technical expert holding the title of Senior Engineer and Industrial Professor. With decades of dedication to the sector, he acts both as an enterprise leader and a hands-on technical practitioner.

He led the R&D of China’s first mercury-free eco-friendly melt pressure sensor, breaking international monopolies and eliminating mercury pollution hazards and safety risks. During the pandemic, the product supported the production of melt-blown fabrics and the supply of core materials for eco-friendly masks.

He developed the world’s first AI intelligent melt pressure sensor embedded with AI algorithms, greatly improving measurement accuracy and stability and driving the intelligent upgrading of the industry.

He conquered pressure measurement technology for high-temperature molten salt heat storage and transfer systems, filling a domestic technical gap. Relevant achievements won the Silver Award at the 6th China (Shanghai) International Invention and Innovation Exhibition and the Bronze Award in the 34th Shanghai Excellent Invention Competition.

His team holds nearly 200 national patents related to sensors, covering core fields such as structural design, intelligent algorithms and eco-friendly materials.

He participated in drafting multiple national standards and verification specifications including *General Technical Requirements for Intelligent Measurement and Control Equipment*, *Pressure Sensors*, *Piezoresistive Pressure Sensors* and *Pressure Transmitters*. He also reviewed hundreds of national and industrial standards and verification specifications, laying a solid foundation for standardized development, quality improvement and technological innovation of the industry.

With GRAEFF as the core platform, Dr. Hao Wu promotes deep integration of sensors and the Internet of Things, developing solutions for smart fire protection, smart agriculture, smart sanitation and other scenarios to support urban digital transformation. His innovative technologies are widely applied in plastics, chemical fiber, rubber, petrochemicals, new energy and other industrial fields, substantially boosting the international competitiveness of Chinese sensor manufacturers.

Academically, he published the monograph *Intelligent Pressure Sensors: Theory and Frontier Practice*. The book systematically sorts out basic theories, core technologies and future trends, hailed as a practical guide in the intelligent sensing field, providing important theoretical guidance and practical references for the industry.
